Last week I got back to Halmstad from the IEEE Conference on Local Computer Networks (LCN) held in Denver, Colorado. The paper from our group that we presented at the Workshop On User MObility and VEhicular Networks (ON-MOVE) was titled "Evaluating CALM M5-based vehicle-to-vehicle communication in various road settings through field trials" and outlines some of the experiences we've had using 5.9GHz links in typical road settings (it should end up in ieeexplore soon enough).
Although the conference had a much broader scope than just vehicular communication there were still quite a few presentations on this topic. Besides the ON-MOVE workshop the main conference had a session on "Delay Tolerant Networks and VANET's" which I think highlights the many facets of research into vehicular networking (when we think about vehicular communication for safety purposes delay-tolerant is the last thing that comes to mind).
Other highlights were the keynote by Barbara van Schewick of Stanford on Network Neutrality as well as the SenseApp keynote by Neal Patwari which had some excellent video material. I think a broad-spectrum strategy to publishing results is the way forward, complementing traditional papers with other types of media and mechanisms. See one of their videos below.
