The draft of the European Road Transport Research Advisory Council (ERTRAC) strategic research agenda executive summary is available at their website.
The document sets out a number of strategic research goals under the guiding objective of having a 50% more efficient road transport system by 2030 than what we have today. Of course green propulsion technologies and fuels take up a large part of the summary but also ICT and cooperative vehicle systems are seen as key research areas.
The coming decades will see an increase in transportation needs, according to the report, and one of the main objectives is to increase the capacity of the existing infrastructure through more intelligent transportation and freight management. With regards to cooperative/intelligent systems a timeline is laid out that predicts large scale cooperative systems tests finishing in 2015 and after that a push for automated systems up until 2025.
The strategic research agenda from 2004 is also available.
