In 2008 I participated in the Young European Arena of Research (YEAR) student competition that was arranged for the first time together with the Transport Research Arena (TRA) conference. Out of approximately 300 abstracts mine was part of a group of 5o that were chosen as finalists and were invited to come and present our work at the TRA conference in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Submissions were categorized in six pillars, I chose to submit mine to the Safety & Security pillar, in which I won the first prize! Apparently the judges that had reviewed my abstract and asked questions during the poster exhibit liked what they saw.
In 2010 the YEAR competition will be held again in conjunction with TRA in Brussels, if you are a student in the transportation field, you should definitely consider sending in an abstract. Not only was a great opportunity to make my work known to professionals in the field, but it was a great experience to hang out with other students sharing common interests!
